The Return of BOOK WEEK to Kelso!

IMG_1475Last year, we uncovered old photographs of Kelso. Included in these was a black and white photo of Kelso students dressed as literary characters in front of the school. The captions said, “Kelso Book Week” and was dated 1929! This bit of history was the inspiration to revive the Book Week tradition at Kelso. In conjunction with Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s Birthday, Kelso spent the first week of March celebrating reading. Events included a book giveaway, Dr. Seuss-themed activities, and upper grade classes adopting primary classes to promote “buddy reading.” The culmination of Book Week was a fantastic Book Character Costume Parade. Parents and family members came to share in the fun of seeing Sponge Bob, Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Dora the Explorer and other favorites as they paraded around the Kelso playground. Thanks to all who got into the spirit of this event. The children had a wonderful time, and it was a great way to promote the importance of reading for fun. We will certainly look forward to continuing this 85 year-old Kelso tradition!
